Parents' Information Evening for Nursery
We provide an information open evening during the summer for Parents whose child will be attending this class. During this meeting you will meet your child’s Room Leader and they will discuss with you various aspects of the upcoming curriculum, how the child will learn and what the Room Leader will be preparing the children room throughout the year.
This gives you the opportunity to familiarise yourselves with their new environment and teachers, it also gives parents the opportunity to ask any questions they may have about the coming year.
The specifically designed materials increase sensory awareness and refinement of the senses and guide the child in their individual growth and development. These activities help develop concentration, dexterity, and independence while providing indirect preparation for more formal learning such as reading, writing and number work.
Creating a Curriculum Based on Children's Interests
Emergent curriculum is a philosophy of teaching and way of planning curriculum that focuses on being responsive to children’s interests to create meaningful learning experiences. This philosophy prioritizes active participation, relationship building, flexible and adaptable methods, inquiry, and play-based learning. Curriculum is child-initiated, collaborative and responsive to the children’s needs. Proponents of this style of teaching advocate that knowledge of the children is the key to success in your program. Small steps, self-correcting materials, individual lessons and self-chosen tasks all lead the child to experience success. The focus is on the development of the whole child and the provision of an environment complete with enriching activities that will foster growth in this vital period of development.
Along with these methods, we also link Aistear’s curriculum framework. Some examples include role play, self-caring activities, numeracy, literacy and mathematics.
